How does permanent hair reduction work?
To achieve long lasting or permanent hair reduction, it is necessary to destroy the hair follicle from which individual hairs grow. Controlled pulses of light penetrate the upper skin layer and are absorbed by one of the body's own natural chemicals - melanin - in the hair contained in the follicle.
Melanin converts the light energy into heat. This heat is transferred to the hair follicle, which is destroyed, making it unable to produce a new hair.
What happens during the Ellipse treatment?
Firstly we shave the area to be treated (we have to do this because we need the hairs to be in their follicles but don't want hairs on the skin's surface). We apply a gel, like ultrasound gel, to the skin then commence the treatment which feels a bit like an elastic band snapping on the skin. Most clients feel a mild discomfort but nothing too painful.
When the treatment ends we apply aloe vera gel to soothe the treated area. Slight redness is common after treatment but this usually subsides after a few hours.
Does it work on everyone?
As long as your hairs are darker than your natural skin colour, then we can treat them - unless your skin colour is very dark
How many treatments are needed for permanent hair reduction?
Ellipse treatment is only effective on growing hairs as these are still attached to the follicle which explains why more than one treatment is necessary. The length and timing of the hair growth cycles are affected by numerous factors such as body site, hair density, thickness, ethnic origin, hormonal level and age.
Usually 6 - 8 treatments are needed for a highly satisfactory result with 4 weeks between the treatments for facial areas and around 6-8 weeks for the body.
